Project description

Innovative Project Idea

The objective of this project is to develop a graphical molecular input tool which enables students in chemistry and related sciences to construct structural formulas and reaction schemes online. This tool will utilize a virtual chemistry construction kit, providing features such as atom types, bond types, ring structures, charges, arrows, and more. Furthermore, the developed tool should incorporate the capability to automatically review and assess the drawn structural models in exercises, quizzes, and online exams in OLAT or other assessment software environments.

Added value for students and teaching

A graphical molecular editor serves as a visual and interactive tool for students to input various types of chemical structures, including organic molecules, inorganic complexes, biochemical compounds, and reaction schemes. This enhances the development of a deeper understanding of molecular geometry, bonding patterns, functional groups, and three-dimensional perception. Integrating this editor into the teaching process enables students to actively participate and engage with the platform, leading to a more dynamic and interactive learning experience.
