Project Description

Innovative Project idea

The academy will include a session on intercultural communication and negotiation skills as part of the virtual component where participants will negotiate with a fellow participant from a different country. The participants will also benefit from in-person interaction with students and instructors from across the world who will share their experiences of negotiation both on ‘the ground’ and in international organisations. The assessment will include asking students to reflect upon their own culture and how it might affect their approach to negotiation and conflict resolution generally and whether it played a factor in the final multiparty simulation.

Added value for students and teaching

The academy provides a unique opportunity for students to attend a truly international summer school in Zurich in the field of political science and international relations. The summer school will have a competitive selection process both for up to forty students with the last iteration of the predecessor event attracting students from universities based in China, Singapore, South Africa, Canada, United States, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The integration of leading practitioners with proven training experience will also provide students with a different perspective to the theoretical teaching of topics of international relations affording them the chance to develop and practice transferable ‘soft’ skills that can be applied throughout their professional lives. The program will directly benefit approximately six students from IPZ per year with up to four given the chance to attend as volunteer organisers.
