Interactive Research-Based Training for Clinical Biostatistics

Innovative project idea

Biostatistical methods play a key role in almost any modern clinical research project. Students in the Clinical Biostatistics course are exposed to current medical publications to understand application and interpretation of the underlying methodological aspects.
We aim to re-design the lab in Clinical Biostatistics to a more interactive, interdisciplinary, research- based practical training session allowing students to effectively bridge the gap between theory and application. We will develop an innovative teaching format using KlickerUZH combined with peer teaching.

Benefits for students and teaching at UZH

Benefits for students:

  • To see applications of statistical methods in current clinical research practice
  • Interdisciplinary peer teaching: to mutually learn from an interdisciplinary group of students (e.g. methodologists and medical professionals)
  • To study the relevant scientific literature by searching articles applying specific methodology

Benefits for teaching:

  • To gain more experience with digital teaching tools
  • To promote interdisciplinary courses and integrate students at different levels
  • To strengthen research-based teaching
  • Possible transfer to other courses
